Although it takes half the book to find out what actually happened at the barbecue, Moriarty keeps the reader’s attention and sets the stage for the second half of the book. The last few chapters really do a good job of tying up loose…

Another entertaining novel from Liane Moriarity! I actually miss the characters now that I've finished reading it! There were 3 couples that I got quite attached to and how their lives interact. Then there were the grandparents and little…

Quit halfway though reading this. Too slow moving, could not connect with the characters, and found this book jumped all over the place.

no one in my book club gave it good reviews

I didn't want the book to end. Great characters.

Great book, and looking forward to reading more books by Liane Moriarty. She does a great job of developing her characters.

I made it to page 90, chapter 17. It just seemed to be like a broken record, what if they hadn't gone to the BBQ? And every chapter was "the day of the BBQ". Couldn't take it anymore.

Good suspense throughout book, some hard to read parts but overall good book.

When every chapter ended I thought "What happened at that barbecue!?"....great suspense! Loved it!

Moriarty’s ability to write with depth and psychological astuteness is nothing short of profound.

Excellent read. A virtual page turner.

Moriarty’s writing is on another level. I am always stunned by her rare ability to write many layered characters. By the end, you truly feel like you know them on a deeply personal level. All of their flaws and quirks are laid bare and…

I am just about finished reading this book, and I really enjoyed the fleshing out of each character! The characters, children and adults alike, are very believable. Feeling guilty about being a "pretend friend", or being an "irresponsible…

I believe I have read too many of Moriarty's books. I was blasé about the hint-of-the-disastrous-future-event: though I've enjoyed this technique in her books before, it's too familiar now.

This story is laid out similarly to Big Little Lies where the story unfolds by jumping between the past and the present, centered around one big incident. The first two thirds felt really slow to me and I had a hard time really feeling…

As with all of this author’s books, I love the great effort she puts into her research whether it be Sydney’s detailed suburban geography, the idiosyncrasies of cello acoustics or the unpredictable explosiveness of a Meditation Retreat. It…

I have become a true fan of Liane Moriarty's work. She develops rich characters in relatable settings. Then she will go and develop rich characters in madcap settings and still somehow make them relatable. In Truly Madly Guilty, she…

Found the book to be very similar in format to Big Little Lies which I had just read. In both, you are well into the book before you find out what the main event is that drives the first half which is okay. The book is also about young…

I'm a little shocked to see so many mediocre reviews here! If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller, this is definitely not your book. But if you enjoy clever character development and an honest exploration of the complexity of…

I had read one of her other books and couldn't put it down. When I picked this one up, I was wondering what I had seen in this author. I think the shallowness of the characters really turned me off. I finished it and she redeemed herself a…

October 24 2016 I had to stop reading this latest book by Liane Moriarty after only 35 pages. The author uses the same old plot device that she has used successfully in the past. It was a novel approach in her earlier books like "The…

2.75. I knew this was not my genre when I got it from the library but it was chosen by a book club I recently joined. It was incredibly slow. 200 pages in, you still do not know what happened at the barbecue. I understood the characters…

Another story about bad things happening to little kids because the parents are too wrapped up in themselves to surpervise them properly.

I loved What Alice Forgot, so enthusiastically dove into this book. I'm now on chapter 42 and am still waiting for the big reveal alluded to at the very beginning -- WAAAAYYYYY too long. It actually feels manipulative of the author to drag…
