personally, i think this book is a bit too much for young readers. i would recommend this book to ages 14+, but overall it was great🙂
I thought this book was great! I have not read her other works but this was a great page turner that really pulls you in. It had some sad parts but it's still a great story. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a nice summer read! I'd give it five stars!
I’ve never read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, but I randomly picked up The Last Summer (of You and Me) by Ann Brashares and it's a favorite. For me, it's a perfect beach read.
This novel had a lot of the elements that I love in fiction. It has a dual structure, in which an author weaves together the past and the present to create a a fuller story. It has childhood friends turned lovers, which is my favorite type of love story. And it has a strong, emotionally complex relationship between sisters.
I really recommend it to fans of Curtis Sittenfeld’s Prep, Laura Moriarty’s The Center of Everything, and Summer Sisters by Judy Blume as well as for readers who discovered the hidden gem of a book April & Oliver by Tess Callahan.
This was ok. I think Ann Brashares's style of writing is more suited to young adult novels, though.
Disappointing. The characters weren't very likeable, and the plot line was depressing. Not the fun "beach read" I was hoping for.
A good read, but not as good as her other work. The book doesn't explain actions and motivations of characters as well as many other stories. Good summer book read.
The story was OK, and it was a quick, mostly sweet story about two sisters and their friend; except for the fact that too many pages were spent on sex.
A great summer read for the cottage! I got pulled into the lives of the characters as they lived through that summer on Fire Island and the following months.
A quick and altogether engrossing summer read. Very enjoyable, but not quite as affecting as Brashares' Traveling Pants series. A solid adult novel debut.
I loved this book and read it very quickly as it retained my interest from page to page, chapter to chapter. The only thing I wanted to mention is that the dialogue is totally unrealistic... They say things that you wouldn't normally say in a conversation. I often had to re-read dialogue between characters to assure I had a full understanding of what they meant or what the hidden message was behind their words.
But all in all, it was an amazing story! I can't wait to read Ann Brashare's future Adult Fiction novels!
