I was inspired to read this book after seeing the Make Way for Ducklings sculpture while visiting the Boston Public Garden. It is an engaging story about a pair of ducks who are busy with starting their family. Where will there be safety and food for nesting and ducklings? In busy Boston, they dodge traffic and other dangers to do just that, with the help of Police Officer Michael and his friends. The illustrations are simple and fun. 78 years after the first publication of the book, it was delightful to see the pond, swan boats, lagoon bridge, and ducks in the Garden, just as illustrated in the book.

Great story. Despite not having colour illustrations it was still engaging and our 3 year old still questioned things in the pictures. I like it when it's not all about colour stimulation.

Mr and Mrs Mallard search for a place to lay eggs and raise their ducklings. A mix of nature and city issues. The police stopping the traffic and helping them cross the road is a great part I thought.

Our son asked for it over and over and over again.

I even learnt things about ducks I didn't know! They don't like turtles and they eat peanuts, and their feathers malt so they can't fly for nesting season! Both husband and I even made comments about those facts and our son loved that it was something we didn't know I think, and I loved that I could show him I don't know everything and reading books can help us learn interesting facts.

Highly recommend this, it is a classic case of don't judge the cover.

A solid classic. I was lucky to get a chance to visit the Public Garden in Boston, where this story is immortalized with bronze sculptures of the ducklings and their mama. I know I read this as a child, but it was nice to revisit it again.
