What a great introduction to a truly intriguing and nefarious character - Artemis Fowl. With just the right amount of fantastic mixed with adventure, I really enjoyed this book. I'm sure the rest of the series is a treat, too.

Artemis has stolen fairy technology and created a supercomputer in a cube that responds only to his voice. His father has seen the light and decided to no longer be a criminal mastermind. He has asked Artemis to do the same. Artemis, who has successfully run the family's criminal endeavors while his father was in a coma, reluctantly agrees but decides to go out in a blaze of glory, one more big heist. The whole thing goes badly wrong when a Chicago businessman turns the tables on him, steals the cube, and leaves Butler, Artemis' bodyguard and friend, dead. Artemis must ask the fairies for help to save his friend and get back the cube that endangers their society, too.

A completely original and surprisingly deep story, Artemis Fowl follows the title character in his obsession of discovering truths about the world, mainly that there is more to it than we realize. A boy genius with sometimes criminal tendencies and the good fortune to have been born immeasurably wealthy, Artemis also suffers from a complete lack of parental guidance. With a father gone missing, and a mother who's mind is not what it was, Artemis is free(?) to engage in any measures he deems necessary to achieve his goals. If you like action, adventure and unexpected elements of fantasy, you will love this series!

I LOVE THIS BOOK SERIES!!! I'm super excited to announce that the movie will be coming out in May 29 of 2020!!! It was supposed to come out in August but got postponed cause of legal stuff. In honor of my personal favorite book series I'm rereading the entire series. Also coming out in 2020 is "The Fowl twins" the sequel series. This great series is about a 12 year old boy genius and his devious escapades with the magical world of the fairies. Featuring humor, wit, snippy comments, and evil plots. This series is a must read!! mature 12+

Coarse Language: just a little bit of swearing, and some of it is in the language of the fairies.

Other: some intense crude humor. Parts of it I don't mind, but others.... it would be way better without that stuff.
