Dr. Michael Rafael Moreno, better known as "Dr. Mike," is a graduate of the University of California at Irvine and Hahnemann Medical School (now Drexel University). Following his residency at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, California, Dr. Mike moved to San Diego, where he now practices family medicine and sits on the board of the San Diego Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In 2008, Dr. Mike launched "Walk with Your Doc," which he participates in every Tuesday and Thursday morning before his workday begins. The program began when Dr. Mike offered to walk with a patient to motivate her to exercise and has since grown into a thriving community Dr. Mike takes pride in being viewed not only as a doctor, but also as a friend and confidant.

This diet promises results. And in my own experience, it gets them! It gets results because it balances food and exercise to adjust your body’s metabolism to burn fat, “day in and day out.”

The first 17 days offers fast weight loss. The next 17-day cycle ups your calorie count to confuse your metabolism. This feast-famine thing prevents your body from adapting. No plateauing. And keeps you interested.

The third cycle helps you move closer to your goal by establishing healthy eating habits with the foods you really like.

And the last cycle is maintenance.

Dr. Mike doesn’t promise you a rose garden. You have to stop eating unhealthy junk. You’ve got to eat veggies, fruit and lean meat. You learn to keep your portions down, cut down on fatty, sugary, and salty foods, and move your butt (Mike’s word). You won’t feel so hungry you have to raid the fridge at midnight. You’ll succeed because it only lasts 17 days!

The good doctor peppers his pages with the results of scientific studies that prove his points.

He hooked me with all this and I gave it a try. I lost 8 pounds after the first 17-day cycle. That's the same amount it took me 3 months to lose using my tried and true methods. I think Mike has incorporated enough strategies proven by scientific studies in his plan to ensure success for anyone who follows the plan closely. All is achieved with good wholesome foods and easy recipes, supplemented with a daily dose of regular exercise. A recipe for successful weight loss. Yay!!!

A good program. You just have look beyond the author's failed attempted at witticism. And if you read carefully, you'll find many inconsistencies in the book. But if you use the general theory, it'll work out for you - or it did for me anyways. I lost 14 pounds in two weeks. It goes a lot slower after than (of course I'm allergic to exercise).
