As a librarian I liked this book because it uses analytical backed observation rooted in political science to destroy the idea that the media is not biased and not biased towards progressive/liberal positions. Groseclose does a fantastic job of showing how he gathered his data and used pertinent examples from actual recent news coverage. There needs to be a follow up after President Trumps election that goes further to show how the media has abandoned all pretext of neutrality, his work was done with the idea that the media actually sought to be seen as neutral. He does a fantastic job of showing how the media bias effects the people who view biased media sources. One point that stands out is is question which I'll paraphrase as this: as the US public consistently self identifies as conservative and given that biased media effects outlooks, how much more conservative would the public be if not for the overt bias of the media? For those on the left who think that conservative are not grounded in their observation of liberal bias this book will be hard to read as it make the case that yes the media is biased and yes its biased towards the left
