Robot & Frank
DVD - 2013
Frank is an aging ex-jewel thief, and his two grown children are worried that he can no longer care for himself. In deciding what to do with Frank, the most likely option appears to be putting him in a nursing home. But Frank's son comes up with another option: buy Frank a walking, talking robot programmed to look after him and improve his physical and mental health. Frank resists the robot at first, but he warms to it after realizing that it could be the perfect heist companion.

85 minutes??? Big surprise when the sheriff opened the trunk of the sons car.
Good movie. Nice interaction with elderly father who is having memory problems and his new robot helper. Robot actually gets his mind working for a while.
I enjoyed this little movie, with excellent famous actors turning in reasonably credible performances. There are a few creaky moments, for instance, that Frank didn't recognize the sexy librarian, but is still able to carry out pretty sophisticated capers. But in general, the message of the movie, that it's ok for grandpa to steal big-time from hare-brained yuppies as long as he doesn't get caught, comes across. But for a possibly more believableāand chillingānear-future, watch Spike Jonze's "Her."
Trite, predictable but entertaining.
A creative film about the future of healthcare meeting a unique elderly man. A former thief, Frank is given a new companion robot by his concerned son in order to keep him healthy and active. However, Frank takes matters into his own hands. ROBOT & FRANK felt incredible at the time. There have been films of the same vein since, like HER. Sure, there were films like SHORT CIRCUIT before it, but ROBOT & FRANK is emotional art, not the latest larger-than-life explosion-fest TRANSFORMERS sequel. For those who prefer the cerebral to the bombastic, I recommend ROBOT & FRANK.
Fun movie moderately original.
Frank Langella is outstanding in this.
I love this movie. Sweet and somewhat sad. Would definately recommend my friends to watch.
A look at the life of a man whose grown children leave him in the care of a robot. The two bond in humourous and surprising ways. I've seen it twice and love this movie.
A melancholy comedy about making Alzheimers work for you. Frank Langella is the cranky cat burgler, Susan Sarandon is the sexy, superseded librarian, and Peter Sarsgaard is their sly, mechanical enabler. Parts of the script go nowhere-- the nasty neighbours subplot should have a better payoff -- but this is the 21st century's first original love story.
