Least favourite Brenna Yovanoff book that i've read so far. It had an interesting concept but I found it hard to follow at times. Also took a long time to read because it wasn't keeping my interest unlike her other books did. I've loved her other books- the space between and the replacement- but this one was a disappointment compared to them. I love her writing and wish I could have gotten more into this book, but sadly I couldn't. Rating 1 out of 5 stars - @Fallenangelhushhush of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

A great read, that makes you feel like you are the main character and half the story you can't recall. The characters are fun and challenging, while not everything has a happily ever after ending.

I loved the narrator on the audiobook. She had this very soft southern accent that lended itself well to the role of Clementine. I found the beginning of the book a bit confusing, but once I grasp what was going on I loved the story and was pulled along with the mystery of The Reckoning.

"Ten years ago, fear and hatred drove the townspeople of New South Bend to attack their magical "craft" neighbours in a fiery purge known as "the reckoning." Young Clementine survived, but only because someone put her in a magical trance and hid her in a cellar with her eyes sewn shut. Now, newly awoken by Fisher (a boy with craft heritage), Clementine must uncover the secrets of her past before the threatening supernatural forces that woke with her overwhelm the town. Intricate, unsettling, and written with "seemingly effortless originality" (Booklist), this modern Gothic tale is a deliciously haunting choice for fans of dark paranormal romance." Clementine DeVore spent ten years trapped in her cellar with no one to hear her screams. After strange and supernatural things starting happening to her childhood home, the townspeople of New South Bend called the people of the Willows witches and demons and burned their homes down. Trapped in her basement since that fateful night called The Reckoning, Clementine is set free by Fisher, a young man with unrevealed gifts. Now that she is free, she tries to find out what happened all those years ago and she discovers that it has something to do with her, and with Fisher and that it might be happening again.
