On a boat with friends off the Florida coast, Ramie Phillips tries to fight her feelings of discontent with steel will and hard liquor. No one even notices as she gets up and goes to the diving board and dives off... and wakes up almost twenty years in the past, at home in bed with her mother waking her up for school. With a second chance to see the people she's lost and change the choices she regrets, Ramie will have to answer the question that no one else can: What it is that she really wants from the past, and for her future?
After a diving accident, thirty-seven-year-old Ramie Phillips is waking up, trying to understand a voice in the distance: "Wake up!" It's her mother. "You're going to be late for school again. I'm not writing a note this time." Transported back in time to the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Ramie's experience is the the fantasy of every woman who's ever thought, "If I could go back in time, knowing what I know now, I'd do things so differently."

Interesting premise, but the book fell flat and I found myself skimming ahead to see how many pages remained. A jumbled mush of pseudo-psychological babble that seemed intended to be moving, but really just ended up being incredibly confusing.

I have read 2 other books of Harbison' s (Hope in a Jar and When in Doubt...) and I loved them. This 1 didn't even seem like it was from the same author. It was boring, dialogue was lacking, the ending was summed up too quickly like the author lost steam in the end. I ended up just skimming through.

I have read all of Elizabeth Harbison's books and was so excited to read her newest one, If I could turn back time. Unfortunately, for me, this was not one of her best. I felt this book was just "ok". For the most part it was entertaining, but I just felt like I've seen movies that have had similar story lines and there was nothing riveting about it.

I enjoyed the book, but the ending left a feeling of "huh, that was quick." Ramie revisits her life as an 18 year old and that gets a ton of coverage, but when she visits an alternate reality of herself at 26, we only get a few chapters. I think if we could have had more at 26, less at 18, then the ending might have been more satisfying.
