Life in space is dangerous and dirty and full of poop jokes and must lived by those who are brave and adventurous in heart! (You were warned...haha!)

An appealing story that nicely balances humor, drama, action, and social commentary. The visuals approach busy without quite getting there, with much to appreciate in the details. The universe created is unique, combining an oddball mix of influences. Young readers should enjoy the fun, kid-empowered story, with the potential to experience fascinating deeper layers with additional readings and rumination.

It takes a VERY special book to make a parent be willing to repeatedly read about "toxic whale diarrhea" with their school-aged children.

Space Dumplins is that book.

The characters include a strong daughter, strong mom, and strong dad, each with different strengths. With strong friends, Violet is persistent when the family is separated by circumstances.

This book is hilarious and adventurous but also doesn't shy away from issues including environmental, ethical, social class, education equity, (alien) races, industrial, and emotional. In my household, we were left with plenty to talk about besides the scatological.
Highly recommended!

Spunky space mechanic heroine goes searching for her missing lumberjack/space-whale-poop-harvester dad with the aid of her 2 besties: an alien and a genetically enhanced chicken. Thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining.
