Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana. Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won't approve of her feelings for her childhood friend--the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn't as weak as Levana believes her to be and she's been undermining her stepmother's wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that's been raging for far too long.

This is the satisfying conclusion to a well-written sci-fi tale spanning 4 books, with hints to well-known fairy tales (Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Snow White). Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Winter and their allies & nemeses of Earth & Luna are all well-defined, fun characters. I wasn't going to read the optional book, Stars Above; but the interview between author & narrator at the end of this book intrigued me to hear more about the characters. I have to admit that this book was too long, and I skipped the middle 4 of the 19 CDs. Too many side stories made me impatient to move on. Even so, I highly recommend this story and not only for teens. It's also great for adults who prefer PG/PG-13 stories, leaving out unnecessary trash. As a bonus, the author has a website with links to amusing & well-done fan art. She said some are spot-on as to how she imagined the characters. On to "Stars Above!" There is more to learn from this powerful tale.

Maybe a different format might work for me. Who knows? For now though, Winter goes to the back burner (again) indefinitely.
