Okay wow, where to begin with this book?

I heard the audiobook and would suggest others also do the same. This is a very detailed book and reading through some of the parts might get a bit dry. The book is extremely thorough and goes all the way back to the late 1800s to describe the roots of the conservative movement in the United States and their vision to turn American into a free market state, reducing the government to a shell of itself.

Some parts of the book were pretty terrifying. How The Koch Brothers (who the book focuses on as the main driver behind conservative and extreme right-wing politics in America) have been spending dark money for the last 50 years to influence politics. Their hands in education, environment, research and government are far-reaching, and it's pretty horrifying to know just how vast their network is.

One thing I've realized after this book is that Donald Trump's victory in 2016 wasn't a one-off freak event. This has been in the works since the 80s and the "shadow government" run by right-wing plutocrats is now finally in play. This was planned all along.

I would tell everyone to read this book to see just how screwed the US government is at this point. It's a scary reality to understand, but if we want it to change, we first have to be fully aware of who the players are and how they have used unlimited funds to channel the agenda they want. I think Bernie Sanders' "1%" speech is over-used, but he is so right about the things he says and how the system is currently operating.

5 years in the writing and years before that researching the KOCHS and their ilk. the shocking part is their secret operation and viscious attacks on anyone who defies them. Their cabal has transformed the Republican party into a Libertarian platform.

This is a well researched book. But the actions of the super rich are not surprising. Since the beginning of history, man has been doing whatever means he can to preserve his wealth at the expense of others.
