The series really takes on a life of its own with this second look at the wonderful Penderwick family, & their friends. It's just so enjoyable.

The series is a fantastic series for any lover of realistic fiction and some mild hi-jinks and adventure. You will fall in love with the four Penderwick sisters.

I loved the first book and this one is just as good. It is a sweet and lovely story.

Continuing the adventures of the Penderwick sisters. In this volume, to fulfill the girls' mother's dying wish, their father agrees to go on a series of blind dates. The girls, anxious that he might find a replacement for their mother (and having heard bad step-parent experiences from friends), plot to find him the worst blind dates possible. At the same time, a colleague of Mr. Penderwick's - an attractive, kind, widowed mother of a young boy - moves in next door to the family. And she's great with the girls, and they really like her. Can you see where this is going? I could, but that didn't make the story any less charming.
Rosalind, the eldest, has boy troubles, and Skye and Jane have school play troubles, and Batty (my favorite sister) has Bug Man troubles, but in the end (a beautiful ending, which - I'm not embarrassed to say - had me crying), everything works out.

I thought it was funny that the Penderwick sisters tried to break up their father and his girlfriend!
They are not so sure that they want another mother around.
This is a great read that I recommend to other children my age!

This sequel to 'The Penderwicks' might not be quiiiiiiiiiiiiite as outstanding as its predecessor, but it's still pretty spectacular. You'll see the ending coming a mile away, but it doesn't matter: these books are lovely and heartfelt, full of memorable characters and a family you'll want to become a member of. They feel old-fashioned but never dated, and I can imagine the series being read for many years to come. Lovely.

The kids went all historical when we discovered this second Penderwicks book. The Penderwick girls are among the most engaging characters in childrens' literature. I love talking with my children (ages 5 and 8) about which of the Penderwicks they like the most, and which is most like them.
Right up there with Clementine and Ramona.

When Aunt Claire produces a blue envelope, written by the Penderwick girl's mother before her death, urging Martin Penderwick to 'jump into the dating pool', Rosalind is determined to make sure that she and her sisters never have a step-mother. Between an interesting new neighbor next-door, long-time neighbor boy Tommy Gieger, an ill-starred play authored by Jane, and a mysterious 'Marianne' whom their father starts dating, this story is completely understandable and lovable. Will Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty ever have a new mother?
