Toward The Promised Land
Forty Years In The DesertStreaming Video - 2011
In the wilderness after a dramatic escape from Egypt, the story of the Hebrew people reaches a pivotal moment - one in which uncertainty and desperation threaten to derail the dream of a Promised Land. This program features author Bruce Feiler's re-creation of that ancient, 40-year struggle for survival. Reflecting on places where God is said to have provided food and water for the Israelites, Feiler discovers the secret of the tamarisk tree and its sweet, honey-like substance called "manna." In the shadow of the mountain believed to be the biblical Mount Sinai, he visits the oldest operating church in the world and sees what's claimed to be the burning bush through which God spoke to Moses. And after many more wonders, Feiler climbs Mt. Nebo, where Moses, though allowed only a glimpse of his accomplishment, savored spiritual rewards nonetheless.
