This historical newsreel, hosted and narrated by Dennis James, contains three segments. The first reviews the incident of the accidental sinking of the USS S-51 submarine in 1925 off the coast of Rhode Island. The second segment goes back in time to the 1926 "Scopes Monkey Trial" in Tennessee. Archival footage of the trial features defense lawyer Clarence Darrow, Congressman and Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan, and the defendant John Scopes. The last segment is a humorous piece, with footage from the early 1930s of a group of men and women indulging in a frigid "polar bear" swim. Included with the newsreel features are two recruitment shorts for the U.S. Marine Corps. From the National Archives and Records Administration.
