Like clockwork every year, one of nature's greatest phenomena takes place off the Texas coast after the August full moon: coral spawning. Once a year in this maze of coral, the sea explodes in a frenzy of reproduction. An expedition prepares to enter the coral habitat. Within the vast sea, each tiny coral creature must find a mate and they have only once chance a year - cued by the moon and the tides and the temperature. Dr. Sylvia Earle, veteran diver and explorer-in-residence of the National Geographic Society, ventures to an area known as the Flower Gardens to observe a mating ritual of astonishing precision and beauty.
