Intrepid host Karin and her cameraman arrive in South America loaded down with more than 140 pounds of gear, making for an arduous beginning to the journey. The expedition begins with a bang, as a Brazilian military helicopter crashes less than a hundred feet from Karin, leading to a bizarre and humorous first evening on the Inca Road. In this episode of Along the Inca Trail, the crew makes its way through Ecuador, finishing the first leg of the journey in Namibia, deep in the country's southern rainforest. Karin is accepted by the people of Namibia - a town like any other, where children play and chores get done - only here, the hum of mining equipment is like an endless theme song, underscoring the reason families move to Namibia in the first place: hope for a better life.
