Herb Ellis, a bop-based guitarist with a slight country twang, became famous playing with the Oscar Peterson Trio after a stint with Jimmy Dorsey's band in the 1940s. Ellis has recorded and toured with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Della Reese, and many others. This program features a classic Herb Ellis performance from 1981, with Dave Maslow on bass, and contains backstage interviews, a biography, and a discography. Among the songs performed are "Days of Wine and Rose," "Sweet Georgia Brown," and "America.
