Herb Ellis, a bop-based guitarist with a slight country twang, became famous playing with the Oscar Peterson Trio after a stint with Jimmy Dorsey's band in the 1940s. Ellis has recorded and toured with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Della Reese, and many others.
