Time was running out for the Germans to push the Allies back into the sea. Every day the British, Canadians, and Americans were strengthening their positions on the French coast with the arrival of thousands of men and shiploads of equipment. Despite fuel and ammunition shortages and constant attacks from enemy fighter bombers, the German defenders of Normandy held their ground. This may have been partly because of their superior weapons, but more because the German soldiers saw the Battle of Normandy as their last chance to win victory over the Allies. This is the third of series depicting the total story of D-Day.
