Kosovo RebornStreaming Video - 2014
Ethnic Albanians make up ninety-two percent of Kosovo's population, in spite of five-hundred years of Ottoman rule and large scale Serbian colonization with mass deportations of Albanians. In 2008, the Republic of Kosovo declared its independence making it the youngest country in Europe. However, the ghosts of the past still live on in the memories of many. This episode rides the rails though the country and reveals both the highs and lows in today's Kosovo. The station master from Pristina recounts the night he was forced by heavily armed Serbs to give up all of his belongings and squeeze into a packed train compartment to be deported from his home country. Now free of repression, young travelers talk about their dreams for the future.
