Stage And ScreenStreaming Video - 2014
This episode tells the story of the entertainment industries of the 1920s and 30s, when dance crazes were all the rage and movie stars came of age. Footage from the theaters, music halls and cinemas of the 1920s and 30s is combined with a characterful voice-over to give a glimpse of a golden era in twentieth century show business. It includes footage of Charles Laughton applying his own stage make-up, chorus line auditions and rehearsals in the West End, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks visiting Europe, and Alfred Hitchcock's first talkie, 1929's Blackmail.
