Chilean writer Jos©♭ Donoso talks with host Joaquin Soler Serrano in a1976 interview for Spanish television about the influence of his family and the Chilean middle class in his novels and short stories. He left Chile for self-imposed exile in the sixties and at this time resides in Spain where he holds writing workshops patterned on those he experienced at Princeton University. In this interview characterized by his openess, Donoso discusses his writing process, his stomach surgery and mental breakdown that facilitated the completion of his best known novel, "The Obscene Bird of Night." He recalls personal memories and classifies Latin American writers in his "Personal History of the Boom".
