I like the re-dos best: DON'T PASS ME BY, from the WHITE ALBUM, BACK OFF BOOGALOO, from his furious-at-Paul phase; and, PHOTOGRAPH, from his songwriting with George days. I don't mean to say his original titles here are poor; not at all. It is so nice to put on a long play Ringo and to enjoy the whole bloody thing. During his slump, when he couldn't buy a contract from a record company, the albums he released had, let's face it, a lot of weak material that wouldn't have made it on anyone's other than an ex-Beatle's product. You might even fall in love with one of the newer songs, as opposed to appreciating only the updating of the three Ringo classics, included. Especially recommended is the co-written number with the male half of the EURHYTHMICS, Dave: SO WRONG FOR SO LONG. Ringo was the Beatle who loved country songs the best, and this is definitely that. He still sings country really well. SHOW THE WAY is a strong song, with a great synth noticeable toward the end. STANDING STILL has Ringo preaching, and he makes solid points. the tune is lively too. the remake of PHOTOGRAPH features strong backup singing (stronger than the original); especially noticeable--again--towards the finish.

Who knew that he had it in him. This is his best album since RINGO.
