Wyatt never really thought much about his dad-a hardened criminal, a lifer in a prison somewhere on the other side of the state. But then the economy had to go and tank, and the community had to go and cut the baseball program from Wyatt's high school. And then the coach had to go and show Wyatt a photograph of his dad at sixteen, looking very much like Wyatt himself. Through a series of unfortunate-or perhaps they were fortunate-events, Wyatt meets a crazy-hot girl named Greer with a criminal dad of her own. A criminal dad who is, in fact, in jail with Wyatt's own criminal dad. Greer arranges a meeting, and Wyatt's dad is nothing like the guy he's imagined-he's suave, and smart, and funny, and cool, and-Wyatt's pretty sure-innocent. So Wyatt decides to help him out. A decision that may possibly be the worst he's ever made in his life. This is another hold-your-breath thriller by the New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award nominated Peter Abrahams.

Wyatt's biological father has been in jail for murder before Wyatt was even born seventeen years ago. Wyatt doesn't know much about his father and he doesn't want to.

Wyatt's life revolves around baseball and getting on the varsity team. It seems like it is going to happen and then Wyatt's school cancels their baseball program because of a lack of funding. Wyatt moves to a school on the other side of the state to get on another baseball team but loses the spot to his best friend who is doing the same thing.

He stays on at the new school anyway and meets Greer, an attractive and slightly older girl. It doesn't take long before Wyatt discovers a surprising similarity between himself and Greer. Her father is also in prison and he knows Wyatt's father.

Soon Wyatt finds himself visiting this stranger who is his father and being drawn into the details of the old murder that isn't as settled as he thought. As he uncovers what really happened, everything in Wyatt's life changes.

This story is a little darker than other YA books by Abrahams and it wraps up a little too quickly for my liking. Compared to the world of books, it is probably 4 plus stars, but compared to others works by the same author I gave it 2.5.
