Sixteen-year-old Jessamine Luxton is heartbroken. Her true love, Weed, the strange but intriguing young man who came into her life so suddenly, has disappeared. How could he have left her with no farewell, and no word since? Jessamine may not know why Weed vanished, but she does suspect that her own father, Thomas, may have had something to do with it. Thomas, who was so obsessed with Weed's secret knowledge of dangerous plants that he would do anything to learn it. This suspicion-and her experiences with poisons-has changed her. She is no longer innocent, and now she has her own intimate knowledge of the power of the plants. So when Jessamine learns that Weed is alive, she will do whatever it takes to be reunited with him. She is, after all, her father's daughter....

Nightshade was an explosive sequel and it definitely lives up to the amazing first book The Poison Diaries. I love the style of writing in these novels, it may feel old fashioned to us nowadays, but the language flows in a way that makes it jump off the page, especially at the tense moments. Nightshade takes this series to a whole other level, with Jessamine traveling through England to get away from her old life and to find Weed who has taken off as well. His travels take him to Italy and the Orto Botanico garden in Padua. Prince Oleander is indeed an instensely creepy villain and he continues to manipulate Jessamine in ways that you cannot imagine. In the last third of the novel the action antes up as you anticipate Jessamine and Weed's reunion but many obstacles still stand in their way. I really cannot wait for the third book in The Poison Diaries series to see how this story unfolds!

Jessamine is getting stupider and stupider. I don`t know if I will read the next one.

This novel wasn't as good as the first novel. It was quite boring but some parts made you keep reading just to see what happened. At times i wanted to stop reading it but i had to find out if the main characters Weed and Jessamine are reunited again at all. Throughout the book parts seemed to lack on saying why isn't this book over yet? Yet I kept on reading just to see if they are reunited. The first few pages were interesting and only in the middle it seemed to lack on. the end of the book it got so much better and the ending was so good that i was so happy i kept reading it until i got to the end. I don't like how the author ended it but it leads into the next book for sure. Even though this book wasn't as good as the first and it did lack on at times i can't wait to see what happens in the third and final book. the ending was that good to make me want to keep reading. the story line was great though in both books. I would recommend to all the readers that read the first book just so they can see what happens.Good story!
