Wow, what a disappointment. After reading his blog for years I had hoped that a book-length project would let Steve spread his wings a bit and branch out into some good, insightful longer-form musings...but instead he engaged in every cliche possible for someone's first book. Changing real conversations into note-perfect, quip-filled examples of how Very Witty I Am For A Mere Waiter? Check. Losing his train of thought trying to fulfill promises of "shock value" in a passing anecdote on side salads? Yep. Taking every possible opportunity to point out how cosmically-ordained and life-changing his book deal is? Oy. Throw in a dizzying tendency to jump from "aw shucks" self-deprecation to "Fountain of Masterly Waiter Knowledge" and you have a tiring slog through a book that likely seemed a good idea at the time. Also, I am a longtime waiter and worked in NYC for most of my career. If only every kitchen was filled with such magically, cartoonishly unbelievable exchanges of cutting banter!

I was expecting a biting and humerous memoir with great helpings of snark. Well, it wasn't as funny as I was hoping it to be. But that is not to say this book is not a worthwhile read. The author shares some anecdotes, dealing with other servers and restaurant owners, as well as good and bad customers. So it certainly was a bit of an eye opener to find out what the people on the other side of the table are feeling. He gives customers advice on what seems to me common sense in how to treat their servers. Plus he also gives some tips to his fellow servers to help them avoid some of the potholes they might fall into. Recommended for anyone who goes to resteraunts.

What a witty, dry humor this man is gifted with. I had thought about being a food server on the side, this book made me rethink that decision. Great laugh from the beginning to end.

Certainly an eyeopening exposure to the not-so-great practices of restaurants (although if you head to the back of the restaurant you can see for yourself). But more than that, this book is just about a guy who's stuck in a deadbeat job (no offense, but that was the vibe I was getting) and the experiences that went along with it. The woes of the workplace take a prominent place in this book: angry boss, uncooperative coworkers, work overload... Everyone can relate to those problems. This book, sprinkled - nah, dunked - in sarcastic humor, makes for a truly laugh out loud read.

Great book. Being a former server, I can definitely relate to this book. And it's all true! You would be shocked at how some people treat their servers. Steve Dublanica is a great writer. At times I laughed out loud!

Fantastic book - a peephole into an industry that I had not thought about at length. After reading it I definitely think twice about how much I tip my waiter!

Aside from being a cynical waiter, Steve Dublanica is an excellent writer.
