"the balloon story"
Experience Albuquerque’s Balloon festival! To do so, you need to hop up early, around 4 AM. Watch the balloons slowly come to life as they’re being filled with hot-hot-air, then witness their inevitable rise into the sky. By 9 AM, all the balloons illuminate a kaleidoscope of color high up against the blue-gray atmosphere – yellows, reds, greens, blacks, purples.
Nowhere will you see a greater sight than in Albuquerque in October. People bring their balloons from all over the world – Norway, France, Australia, England, United States, Canada. A truly fabulous gift to New Mexico.

1) A Rolfingsmeier: In looking for a new children's book for my granddaughter, I found "The Balloon Story". Written for children of kindergarten age through the fifth grade, the author shares her observations and feelings about attending the International Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ms. Lopez writes verses that not sentimental, illustrated by clear, bright photographs. The poetry is straightforward enough to capture a kindergartner's attention, yet clever enough with new vocabulary for an older grade-school child. It is informative for any age reader. The accompanying color photographs are so crisp, I wondered if the photographer was in a balloon nearby. As an adult unfamiliar with the Balloon Festival, I enjoyed "The Balloon Story". I will enjoy sharing this book with my granddaughter, and hope to see more children's books from Ellen Lopez.
