Wabi represents simplicity, humility and harmony with nature. Sabi is an appreciation for things old and faded. A wabi-sabi house is, therefore, uncluttered and furnished authentically. Very much in the spirit of KonMari, wabi-sabi encourages minimalism combined with an appreciation of the imperfect, faded and old.

The author's explanation of Wabi-Sabi is great for us North American rubes. However, since the illustrations are all pale brown closeups, it is difficult to picture the exact palette of grayed-out green, mustard, dark brown and black required.
