Theodora Goss is such a wonderful writer! This book is the sequel to "The Alchemist's Daughter" and ends with anticipations for a third story. Yes!
The Athena Club is formed by "monstrous" girls - Mary Jekyll, Diana Hyde, Catherine Moreau, Justine Frankenstein, and Beatrice Rappaccini - who are such because their scientist fathers experimented on them without any moral qualm. The first volume talks about how they all meet, this one is about their travels through Europe to save Lucinda Van Helsing, on whom her cruel father has been experimenting in biological transmutation. I don't want to spoil the story, so I will not say much, only that it is a beautiful narrative, where these girls show their strength in the face of adversity and danger. A must read for girls, in my opinion, and for women too. I love the plot, the originality of the author, the writing (funny, moving, philosophical, scientific in turn), and I cannot wait for the next story. It's not by chance that Theodora Goss has won and has been nominated for so many awards. I am normally skeptic in these case, but she is good and I hope she will write many more stories of the Athena Club.
