For Azure Springs Sheriff Caleb Reynolds, securing justice for the waifish and injured Em is just part of his job. He is determined to solve every case put before him in order to impress his parents and make a name for himself. Caleb expects to succeed. **Spoiler** A decent, if not riveting, read. Despite the somewhat stilted writing style, I did enjoy the emotional element involved, especially when Em didn't get the reunion with her younger sister that she (and I) had anticipated. That unexpected twist gave a bittersweet edge to the tale. I also liked that Caleb eventually perceived the beauty in Em's plain face and her courageous spirit. Good insight into the orphan train and what it meant for the unwanted children. 3 stars.
