One certainly appreciates the art we have after learning about what has been lost.

A pleasant read with accompanying illustrations for the text. However, it seems a bit of a tease. This is a monumental subject considering the enormity of the lost art of the world, and the treatment here touches base on many of the issues and examples but somehow it seems a bit thin. Perhaps in search of the audience with a desire for a concise and readable volume, sacrificing development as a consequence.
