The result of 15 years of research and exclusive information, this is the first book of investigative journalism to tell the complete story of Littleton, Colorado's 1999 mass shooting, its far-reaching consequences, and common characteristics among public shooters across the country. A classic in the tradition of In Cold Blood and The Executioner's Song, it comprehensively explores fundamental American themes of violence, racism, parenting, and policing. This updated and revised edition concludes with new material about public shootings since Columbine and how communities can stop such horrific events from happening in the future.

Kass' coverage of the Columbine massacre/tragedy is well organized and highly extensive; he goes to great lengths to get crucial details on the before, leading up to, and after of the shooting. He speaks about the families affected, noting on the parents of Isaiah Shoels and their endless fight for the truth and shining light on a sheriff dept that was all too keen on keeping the truth of the shooting under wraps. Kass (with the help of those that provided the information) describes the lives of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold and their ways of thinking, much to a point where you could feel like you knew the two personally. It's eerily intimate and it clutches at your brain, making you rethink the story told by the press and what's being told to you now. Amazing read, the end brought tears to my eyes, would recommend to anyone who wants to know more about the Columbine shooting.
