This is possibly the best film of a novel that was ever made. Burton in particularly impressive in his final film role. Pro tip: It's a bit of a downer, there's not a happy ending. No gun battles, car chases, explosions. Some nudity, but if you blink, you'll miss it. Highly recommended.

The Praxis Of DoubleThink - 2 + 2 = 5

1984 quote: "Can you hold onto two completely contradictory thoughts at the same time?"

WARNING! - 'Big Brother' Is Watching!

Grim. Bleak. Depressing..... This brutally joyless film is a cold and sobering remake based upon George Orwell's famous, futuristic novel (of the same name), which was written back in 1948. The original movie-production of 1984 was released in 1956.

Set in the fictitious country of Oceania, in the year 1984, this is the horribly dismal place where citizen Winston Smith ekes out his incredibly squalid existence. Working for the Ministry of Truth, Winston sits quietly inside his tiny cubicle, obediently rewriting history according to the strictest specifications of The Party (aka. Big Brother).

Oceania is run by a ruthless totalitarian government known as the Superstate. All of Oceania's laws area stringently enforced by the barbaric Thought Police.

Soon Winston is caught in a defiant act of Sex-Crime and promptly taken to the Ministry of Love where torture and brainwashing are the order of the day.

It's inside Room #101 where Winston is eventually taken for further interrogation. It is here that he is forced to face and endure his own worst fears.

The soundtrack for 1984 was written and performed by pop superstars 'The Eurythmics'.

'1984' is based on the eerily prophetic novel of the same name by George Orwell which shows a bleak world from which there is no escape for people from the tyranny of a few as they seek to control the masses through a steady dose of patriotic wars, constant misinformation and by changing the history itself. In this world, not only saying things as they are is unimaginable but even thinking them through is a crime as the citizenry needs to be dumbed down into a servile and mindless horde. Knowledge is power and it must be destroyed so that the perceived reality can be more easily shaped by oppressors who will settle for nothing less than blind devotion from people to perpetuate their own rule. A greatly disturbing film and a wonderful adaptation of a timeless classic. This is cinema in its finest hour.

For you younger citizens out there (below 50) and for anyone else who cares, let it be known that the ORIGINAL CINEMATIC VERSION of "1984" is definitely worth viewing. It was released around 1952-'54 and stars Edmund Obrien. It is a European production (French or Italian??) and can be seen with original soundtrack w/ subtitles or the dubbed version. Besides a decent screenplay, acting and direction the costumes, set designs and general atmosphere are both noir and sci-fi(ish). ENJOY!!

This movie is a fantastic adaptation of the novel. I enjoyed every moment of it.

Very gritty, and also emphasizing the degraded nature of every character in the book. However, also an interesting concentration on the nature of betrayal, which often gets lost in examinations of 1984.

Didn't enjoy this movie. Found it rather depressing to watch but it was rather prophetic in that we are living in a more surveillance type of society with each passing decade.

A film that manages to be just as good (i.e. disturbing) as the novel upon which it is based. Very scary stuff, indeed; and highly recommended for everyone. Doubleplusgood, brothers and sisters!

This is an Adult Movie on the Subject of the Year 1984. This Movie has a Large Moral Value, in the 1984, communism was begining to b a norm in asian countries. The Movie followes the concept of the governement agenda, and displays an exaturated society view of a comunist reform. In it's spotlight, Suvielence Cameras, and Thinking Helmets was the main Idea of ''Governement Control''.

This Movie is Dark, and I do not recomend for younger audiences. It is undoughtedly very interesting, but is not a Romantic Comedy, Comedy, or Dramatic Comedy. This movie is Stricly Drama.
