When life throws her one setback too many, midwife and young widow Tess Hartsong takes off for Runaway Mountain. In this small town high in the Tennessee mountains, surrounded by nature, she hopes to outrun her heartbreak and find the solace she needs to heal. But instead of peace and quiet, she encounters an enigmatic artist with a craving for solitude, a fairy-tale sprite with too many secrets, a helpless infant, a passel of curious teens, and a town suspicious of outsiders, especially one as headstrong as Tess. Just as headstrong is Ian North, a difficult, gifted man with a tortured soul--a man who makes Tess question everything. In running away to this new life, Tess wonders--has she lost herself...or has she found her future?

Not a typical romance novel. As I read first few pages wasn't sure I would finish this one; though I've loved previous books by this author. But as I read on the story captured me. Lots of social commentary but as a whole a satisfying but slow progression of love between Tess and Ian. The epilogue was a quick way to wrap up loose ends. ( I've noticed many authors use this format )

As a longtime Susan Elizabeth Phillips fan, I was initially put off by Dance Away With Me. While well-written (and I wasn’t tempted to put it down!), it wasn’t the kind of lighthearted, fun romance I’d come to expect from her. Expectations aside, this is an excellent story and romance. The slow burn leading to steamy was just right. The cast of more minor characters were well-developed and often hilarious. Tess, the protagonist, was strong and witty while also perceptive and compassionate. I loved her strength in the face of adversity and community distrust. I highly recommend this for romance readers who want good writing, good character development and a community that sucks you in along with a satisfying love story. Susan Elizabeth Phillips has once again upped her game!
