"A young workaholic avoiding home for the holidays discovers that you can't run away from who you are--a heartfelt Christmas novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber. Everly Lancaster always dreamed of leaving her hometown in rural Illinois. Now she helps run a burgeoning startup in Chicago, where her professional goals leave little time for friends...or a vacation. When a massive snowstorm hits, Everly's mother urges her to come home for Christmas, but she hesitates to return to the life she's worked so hard to escape. Searching for other holiday plans, Everly tasks her assistant with booking her a cruise--the perfect getaway. Embarking on a weeklong tour of the Amazon guided by charming naturalist Asher Adams, Everly slowly but surely begins to realize that relationships are more important than work--and just might decide to journey home just in time for Christmas Day"--

Add a CommentThis might be the worst Debbie Macomber Christmas novel I've read. The story line was lame and more like a children's adventure book with a little Christmas thrown in for good measure. Your time could be better spent rereading one of her previous Christmas books.
Loved it!
On Hold
Everly worked hard to get to where she was in the business world as co-owner of a big business; rarely visiting her family, changing her name from Daisy to Everly, and taking time for herself. She also has this assistant who cannot seem to get things straight. Everly has had enough of her assistant's mistakes and wants her out. Being forced to take a month off, Everly takes some time for herself. Unfortunately, that assistant happens to be the co-owner's niece. The assistant takes revenge, tells her she is going to book her on a cruise, and hopes things will be better when Everly gets back. The cruise ended up being a week-long journey on the Amazon River. Again, a bungled up job by the assistant, or is it? Things start off a little rough but, after being care for by the dashing Asher, the expedition director, things begin to change. Beginning with Asher calling her Daisy instead of Everly. As the week goes by, Daisy begins to see her life differently and realize how much she has given up to rise up the ladder of success. It is great to get into the Christmas spirit. Another Debbie Macomber book that makes the heart feel good. This would make a great Hallmark movie! Thank you to Ms. Macomber, Ballantine Books, and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review this book!
