"June is a brilliant but difficult girl with a gift for mechanical invention who leaves home to begin a grueling astronaut training program. Six years later, she has gained a coveted post as an engineer on a space station, but is haunted by the mystery of Inquiry, a revolutionary spacecraft powered by her beloved late uncle's fuel cells. The spacecraft went missing when June was twelve years old, and while the rest of the world has forgotten them, June alone has evidence that makes her believe the crew is still alive. She seeks out James, her uncle's former protégée, also brilliant, also difficult, who has been trying to discover why Inquiry's fuel cells failed. James and June forge an intense intellectual bond that becomes an electric attraction. But the love that develops between them as they work to solve the fuel cell's fatal flaw threatens to destroy everything they've worked so hard to create--and any chance of bringing the Inquiry crew home alive."--Provided by publisher.

Hi yes, this book was so acutely written and I loved it. June was a brilliant heroine and the plot was deeply thought out and wonderfully executed.

I think the description of this book is a little misleading- this is not a romance as described in the synopsis. Yes, there is a brief look at a relationship but that doesn't even happen until part three and if it happened sooner or had been given more space in the book it would thrown off the entire trajectory of where the main character and the plot are headed. James and June had a intense similar way of looking at time, space and the earth which was really interesting to read about from beginning to end.

This story is told in four parts: 1 when June is 12 years old, 2 when June first starts out at the space station, 3 when she is sent to the pink planet with her uncles former student, and four when she sets off on her own after an explosive fight. I think having the book in this layout helped move the plot forward and made the book feel like a thriller.

Overall I think for the amount of research alone that the author had to do to write this book is insane to think about. It was inspiring to learn about what it's truly like to be in space and everything that these candidates go through just to be considered for the position. I highly recommend this read if you loved The Martian, Apollo 13 and Gravity.
