For all of you musical theater fans, this is a must see. There is no other film of a theatrical production that was directed and choreographed by the legendary Bob Fosse, this is it. This was filmed in 1981, 8 years after the original Broadway production in Canada. Granted, the camera work and editing are very poor, the whole quality has an amateurish feel but the performances are by some of the best.

At the top is the incomparable Ben Vereen who created the role of the lead traveling performer. His energy and his effortless singing and dancing are truly an awe inspiring revelation. Chita Rivera also dances and sings like a dream. William Katt, though not a natural singer, does very well embodying the title role with youthful wonder and curiosity. The chorus also has a manic, typical Fosse style presence.

That being said, it's not the best show, the book is infuriatingly odd, but still, I'm grateful for the document of the ever rare work of a master.
