Anna Pigeon has been assigned to historic Mt. Locust, an old plantation and inn on Mississippi's Natchez Trace Parkway which is now a tourist spot. Looking forward to seeing the wildlife of the area, the last thing she expects to find is a corpse in one of the inn's bedrooms. The naked body bears what looks like the brutal scars from an S&M ritual. On the night table sits an open Bible with ominous passages circled in red. When Anna learns that the deceased is the brother of a man running for local sheriff, her investigation leads her into a deadly mix of hidden agendas, old allegiances and buried secrets.
