One day, she goes to the local supermarket and encounters a dog that she brings home with her. Opal decides to name it "Winn-Dixie" because that was the grocery store's name. Opal's luck begins to turn her way, and she begins to make friends in her new town because of the dog. She gains the courage to do much more than she could have imagined because of Winn-Dixie. This story was engaging due to the unique interaction between Opal and Winn-Dixie. The way they are fond of each other adds to how entertaining the story was, making it a great read. Also, the way Opal's level of courage changes is entertaining to read. Overall, Because of Winn-Dixie was entertaining, making it a good book for casual reading.

A great book with wonderful characters. Explores the meaning of belonging, friendship, compassion, and acceptance. I really enjoyed it!
good book!!!
"Because of Winn-Dixie" is a wonderful book. The writing is impeccable; simple elegance. The book is written with integrity and authenticity, and without pretension. The dog, Winn-Dixie, is adorable. The other characters are idiosyncratic, intriguing, and real. The dialogue is clear and authentic. The story (including the ending) flows and rings true.
The author shares feelings that are intrinsic in the human experience: sadness and happiness; loneliness and belonging; rejection and friendship; grief and compassion; hope and acceptance.
Ms. DiCamillo has deservedly received two Newberry Medals. "Because of Winn-Dixie" was (only) a Newberry Honor Book, but may be her best and most enduring work.
This a great book for family reading, especially if one has a child or grandchild in grade school. A gift for all ages.
this is a very moving book it makes you feel happy and sad. my favorite part was how she found win-dixxie
This book was overall very good. The theme was very good, and the characters were well built. You yourself could feel connected to those people in the town. There was a little humor in the story, and the happy ending makes you feel warm inside. I wish this book could've had more action or more drama, but it is a great book.
