Obama

the Call of History

This is a beautiful book: both beautifully written and physically since it contains many amazing full-color photographs that bring the reader within what was happening at the time. Peter Baker has been able to cover most of the events in Obama's 8 years in the White House and brings a unique perspective that offers up Obama in a very human light -- his obvious successes but more importantly also his mistakes, failures, and short-comings as a man who was the leader of the free world. I expected this book to be favorable towards Obama who ascended to the highest public office in our country after only having served one term as Illinois state senator and partial single-term as a U.S. senator. His words inspired a nation and presented the possibility for a great deal of positive change within our democracy. I was surprised to find that this book also objectively presents his struggles and some decisions that were not the right call, and reflected his inexperience and perhaps naivete. Peter Baker makes sure that the reader remembers that our 44th President is, above all, a man who isn't perfect while still possessing incredible strength, intelligence, and leadership.
