Worth seeing if you like time slip films as a genre, or if you're interested in seeing excellent performances by Sarah Polley and Jared Leto. (It's astonishing how Ms P transforms herself from a stunning bride to a deeply disturbed young mother. ) There are several interesting story lines in the film. Unfortunately they are not developed to their potential, because they exist to serve the idea of how different accidental events can produce very different results in life. The film is too ambitious, and way too long, because it tries to fit in too many variant plot lines, and most of them are interesting enough that we'd like to see more of that one, thanks. Sliding Doors did better with two time lines in one feature film of normal length. Being Erica manages a bunch more, in a series format. Sadly, too much of the film is set in a fanciful future, that just doesn't work, and in another time line where everyone wears black and white argyle and there seems to be a Truman-show like suggestion that it's all a fantasy of some kind. I wasn't surprised to see that this film is a French production. It has a lot of terrific images and bid-idea themes, and you expect that they're all carefullly calculated to fit together in a way that you'll be able to figure out, as in Cloud Atlas or Donny Darko. Sadly not. The script tries hard to be intellectually dense but it's just prententious. But it was well worth watching, for the performances. About 60% of the running time is quite good, and you have to sit through the rest, to experience that.
