If you remember 80s contemporary country radio, this album would fit right in. Which is to say, it doesn't quite hold up to more traditional country music, but it far surpasses most country music written today. In fact, it might fit a little too well, as three of first four songs on the album recalled other songs of the period, to the point that Nelson's songs couldn't be appreciated on their own merit. Despite this I did enjoy the album, though Nelson's voice isn't particularly suited to these arrangements, sounding more like father, Willie, at the end of his career, rather than his prime. Many of these songs would work better stripped down.
